Substance Use Treatment

Substance Use Treatment

The Behavioral Wellness Clinic offers outpatient treatment for individuals with mild-moderate substance use disorders, including alcohol, cannabis, stimulant, and tobacco use disorder.

  • A substance use disorder is diagnosed when an individual’s ongoing substance use leads to cognitive, behavioral, and/or physiological symptoms resulting in significant problems. Continuous substance use can lead to impaired control over the substance, social impairment, and risky use, as well as tolerance and withdrawal.
  • Treatment will involve a one hour consultation and a 1-2 hour testing assessment, followed by individual therapy ranging from 1-2 hours weekly or biweekly depending on the diagnosis and symptom severity. If an individual is diagnosed with a substance use disorder in the severe range, then a referral to a more appropriate clinic will be given.
  • A release of information will need to be completed in order for the clinician to speak with the individual’s medical provider. It may be necessary that the individual seek regular visits with a medical provider due to the health risks associated with substance use and the possible aid of medication management to reduce cravings, manage withdrawal symptoms, and/or to treat other existing mental health issues. If an individual does not have a current medical provider, our clinic can provide referrals.
Treatment is specifically designed for each individual patient in order to reduce symptom severity and frequency of substance use. We offer a range of evidence-based services including Relapse Prevention Therapy (RPT), Cognitive Behavioral Coping Skills Therapy (CBST), and Seeking Safety, which provides treatment for individuals with co-occurring PTSD.
