Emily Dean is a graduate student at the University of Louisville entering my second year of a two-year Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) program.

The program I originally enrolled in was a Social Work program with a specialization in CFT, however, in the beginning of this year the CFT program was as a stand-alone degree, so I decided to stick with solely that. I am interested in working with individuals and couples and plan to work towards becoming a certified sex therapist upon graduation. Sexual wellness is something I am very passionate about and I enjoy working with anyone seeking to enhance that part of their life.

I got my bachelor’s degree from UofL in Psychology with a minor in creative writing in 2017. I took a gap year after high school and after college to spend some time with my family in Brazil. I tend to spend a few months there right before any major life transitions. It has proven to be a great place for me to relax and press reset. My mother is Brazilian, and my father is American, living in Louisville his entire life. The short story is that they met when she was an exchange student, but there is a whole complex back story that I love. They have been married for over 30 years and own My Favorite Muffin, a small bakery on Shelbyville Road. I have worked there since I was 14.
